Three terms of importance to the proposed research study require definition. The term Middle Eastern student will refer to a person from one of the countries in that region other than Israel. Israeli culture, although different from that in the United States in several respects, is nevertheless essentially a Western culture. Middle Eastern student, as that term will be used in the proposed study, will refer to persons from the countries in that region with an Islamic heritage. The term college or university will refer to a postsecondary institution that offers as a minimum four year degree programs. The term student will refer to a person whose course load denotes a full time status as a student.
