Performance objectives must be consistent with the approach to performance evaluation. In the instance of the OESPS, the approach to performance evaluation is results oriented. Similarly, the organization's performance objectives are also resultsoriented. The performance objectives for the OESPS are as follows:

1. The first performance objective is to increase the awareness on the part of special patients of their special needs, the relationship of these needs to resources available through the hospital, and their abilities to gain access to these resources.

2. The second performance objective is to develop additional hospital resources to serve special patients.

Accountability of the organizational leaders of the OESPS is accomplished through performance evaluations of the organization conducted at regular intervals. The goal of this accountability system is to improve the performance of the OESPS, by guaranteeing that meaningful communication will exist between supervisors and employees within the OESPS, and between OESPS supervisors and governing bodies. In the instance of the OESPS, the relevant governing bodies are (1) the hospital board of directors, (2) the exeutive director of the hospital, and (2) the New York State Hospital Review Board.
