Professional Association for Fashion Models

zation to represent the interests of professional models would be feasible was assessed through a quantitative analysis of the responses to the survey questionnaire. Mean responsesto the several questionnaire items were used in this analysis.

It was found that the creation of a professional association to represent the interests of fashion models might not provide as much power for the models, as it would provide power for the association. While this aspect of the issue is somewhat disturbing, it must be remembered that, at this time, fashion models have almost no power, and that a shift of power to an association representing their interests would, at this time, represent an enormous improvement in their situation.

The responses to the survey questionnaire indicated that the organization of a professional association to represent the a2

interests of fashion models would be positively perceived by fashion models, and only slightly less positively by the employers of fashion models. These responses argued strongly for the feasibility of such an association. Modeling agencies were not positively inclined toward the formation of a professional association to represent the interests of fashion models. The attitude of the modeling agencies toward a professional association representing the interests of fashion models provides a confirmation of the contention that fashion models are being exploited by the mdeling agencies, and that the creation of a professional association is needed.

Based on the findings of the research performed for this study, it was concluded that the formation of a professional agency to represent the interests of fashion models is both desirable and feasible. It was concluded further that modeling agencies in particular may be expected to fight the creation of such an association.
