Each member of a nurturing family feels like a person in his or her own right. They know that they are valued and love and they value and love others. When appropriate, they respond to one another with humor and laughter. In nurturing families, family plans are formulated without a sense of panic if something or someone interferes with those plans; in other words, the nurturing family readily makes adjustments.

Parents in nurturing families understand their children and know that they are not intentionally bad even when they badly misbehave. Parents in nurturing families accept the fact that change is an inevitable part of life and attempt to use this truth to make their families
