Metabolism of Ethanol

he products. This paper describes the process of the ingestion and metabolization of these products through a process called chromatography (Chromatography, 2004). Essentially, this process uses various mixtures of components and each of them are flushed through the system at different rates. The process is used to either separate or analyze each of the components in one specific mixture. In this case, the process is used to determine the level of ethanol. It is perhaps one of the most complex and specialized methods used to determine the levels of a specific ingredient in any mixture and it is very accurate (Types of Chromatography, 2004). In this research, gas chromatography, or otherwise known as gas-liquid chromatography (Gas Chromatography, 2004), is used to perform the analysis between the metatbolism of ethanol contained in the two specimens.

By using this special procedure, a mixture is vaporized and then injected into the head of a column, which is then transported through the system via an inert gas. While there are several different components of this apparatus, a complete discussion of its operation is well beyond the scope of this research paper. However, the end result can become the most accurate analysis of ethanol contained in any solute at any given time and its accuracy is well beyond any other methods currently used.

There are several important aspects concerning the absorption and metabolization of ethanol that make it unique with respect to any other ingestable liquid. Once the ethanol is ingested, it is rapidly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract and the majority of the product is oxidized by the liver. In fact, according to most authorities, only about two to ten percent of ethanol is eliminated through other pathways, such as the urine or through breathing (Medical Council on Alcohol, 2004). Most people who do not understand the properties of ethanol and only realize that it is a clear liquid, do no...
