To reach this goal the study is designed to assess the perceptions of college deans and directors regarding specific factors that may be related to unethical leadership: personal stress, managerial stress, ego soothing, leadership goals, unethical choices, and ethical choices.
This study is significant since unethical behavior in college deans/directors continues to exist and unethical behavior has a negative impact on all involved. To help eliminate unethical behavior, reasons for its existence must be understood and findings from this study will help provide this information. The literature reports factors (personal stress, managerial stress, ego soothing, leadership goals, unethical choices, and ethical choices) that may be related to unethical behavior and findings from this study will provide additional insight related to these factors. Specifically, findings will provide insight regarding college deans/directors' perceptions of these factors and whether the factors are related to unethical behavior. Once understood, future efforts will be able to focus on alleviating those factors that are related to unethical behavior. The findings will also provide a foundation for future research directions and recommendations for school leaders and educators.
Since literature regarding college and university deans and directors demonstrates that unethical behavior is found, the need for research to understand factors related to the development of this unethical behavior is implied.
