ig. He has had, at times, advantages over his competitors. As they were all thinking big, however, thinking big was not one of Trump's advantages. The assumption that he had an advantage because his competitor was not thinking big, however, has, at times, proved to be a disadvantage for Donald Trump.

There is more to Donald Trump's thinking big than might at first be apparent. Trump does not think big just because he wants to make a lot of money or just because he wants to be a business success. He stated that he was not satisfied "just to earn a good living. I was looking to make a statement." Donald Trump, thus, has a very high opinion of himself. That high opinion, however, is not enough. Trump is concerned lest someone else might not share his opinion of himself. Patrick Wright, writing in New Statesman & Society, referred to Donald Trump "as the man who would be Christ."

Donald Trump also subscribes to the notion that leaders are born not made. He has attributed his type of business success to "an ability you're born with. It's in the genes. à It's mostly about instincts." Trump added that: "You can take the smartest kid at Wharton, the one who gets straight A's and has a 170 IQ, and if he doesn't have the instincts, he'll never be a successful entrepreneur." In the last two decades of the twentieth century, Japanese business people in particular, as well as others, are proving that one does not need an obnoxious, killer instinct to not only succeed, but to prevail in business. Civilized, unostentatious people not attempting to make a statement can, and do, succeed, and prevail, in business.

Donald Trump, however, contends that success in business stems from a "controlled neurosis." He stated that successful entrepreneurs are "obsessive, à driven, à single-minded, and à maniacal."
