Measuring Perceptions of Staff

)

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) includes two surveys, one for the faculty and staff and one for the Deans and Directors. The survey for the faculty and staff includes 30 questions that measure the individual's perception of others' ethical leadership. The survey for the Deans and Directors includes 30 questions that measure the observer's personal perception of his or her own ethical leadership. Each scale has six questions that assess each of the five scale factors. The five factors measured by the scale include challenging, inspiring, enabling, modeling, and encouraging.

The scale was changed from a five-point to a ten-point response scale for the second edition of the LPI. Responses from observers can now be categorized by their relationship to the leader. There are five scales of leadership practices, each measured by responses to six statements, on a 10-point Likert scale.
