ut was fearful of her husband being served. When she was no longer able to sustain her husband's abuse, she sought emergency shelter, where she is now living. Mrs. C. states that she can no longer take any abuse and is fearful that her husband might someday kill her. She hopes to reconcile with her husband if he could change since she still loves him. She wants to stay in the United States. Counseling was recommended.

Mrs. C. comes from an unstable home where she was raised as an only child. She was physically abused by her father, who suffered from a mental disorder. Her mother was absent. Mrs. C. was raised by her grandmother, who made sure that she became educated. Mrs. C. married, and when her grandmother died, she came to the United States.

Mrs. C.'s husband grew up in a middle-class family, the eldest son. His father, a laborer in the automobile industry, was chronically ill and lost many jobs, but managed to support the family. While in college, his parents divorced and they are now deceased. He has had no contact with siblings since moving to the United States.

The social worker provides case management which includes assessment, referrals, counseling, and client monitoring. Assessment, within the context of focused brief therapy has the purpose of creating goals and possibilities. The assessment asks what the client wants, how their desire will make a difference to them, how the client will know that they are on the right track for getting what they want, and how the client is currently experiencing any of what they want (Peller & Walter, 1998).

For this case, solution-focused brief therapy, within the generalist practice model, will be utilized. The solution-focused brief therapy model is consistent with the generalist practice model.
