Social workers also help by servicing ineligible populations. Some police calls are considered ineligible for police involvement and are better served by the police social worker; in other cases, the police social worker can assist with helping the individual to become more cooperative. Social workers help individuals while going through court processes. They provide counseling, information, and support to the client and they provide prosecutors with background information ("Social Work and Police," 2002).
Field instruction is a part of the School of Social Work. Students are placed in an agency to fulfill objectives of learning ethics and values, increasing knowledge, developing a professional self, and developing skills. Students represent the social work role within the agency.
