The purpose of this study is to examine the successful strategies utilized by women in middle to upper management positions in transcending the 'Glass Ceiling' (Hymowitz & Schelhardt, 1986), to successful career advancement in corporate organizations. Successful strategies will include background demographics (i.e., education level, size and type of organization, and present management position) and information about the respondent's thoughts regarding career advancement strategies. Although a variety of research has been done in this area, it is not extensive. This study seeks to strengthen and build upon existing research findings. The demographic information is important in identifying similar and diverse backgrounds that may contribute to significant differences in career advancement and strategies. The second part of the study will ask the respondents to identify the strategies employed for career advancement to leadership positions in organizations in spite of the 'glass ceiling' effect. The method of data collection will be a survey administered on line at a professional web site. The respondents will be voluntary. Multiple regression analysis attempts to answer the question, "what is the nature or closeness between two or more variables, and to what extent"? The researcher will attempt to control for bias and objectivity in the data assessment. A pilot test will be conducted prior to administering the research survey for the purpose of establishing the reliability and validity of the survey questions.
Procedures
A pilot test will be conducted to allow for any adjustments that may need to be made to the research survey. It is important to detect errors that may cause confusion to the survey respondents. The pilot test also allows the researcher to test all statistical analysis procedures.
The survey will consist of a cover letter, the demographic section, and the section that inquires about strategies utilized for career advancement. The survey will also include some open ended questions. The survey will allow the respondent to go on to the next question without answering the previous one if they so desire. The data will be secure and anonymous via a professional survey web
