Through the Publishing segment that includes Simon & Schuster, Macmillan Publishing USA, and Prentice Hall, the company publishes and distributes educational, consumer, business, technical and professional books, and audio-video software products in 300 countries. Viacom and its affiliated companies  some 3,000 in number -- employ approximately 83,500 people, of which approximately 33,000 are full-time salaried employees (10-K, 1997, 4).

Viacom owns businesses many countries. These include: Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, Egypt, Greece, Iceland, Russia, Georgia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and 67 other countries.

This proposed investment is to establish a series of Space Camp Theme Parks in Malaysia, the first in the Asian market. The investment will require a joint venture with the government of Malaysia, with that government providing the land and infrastructure including roads, sanitation and liens. Viacom's part will be a $150 million investment which will include license agreements with NASA, purchase and transportation of all space equipment, amusement rides and so on.

The Federation of Malaysia has 13 states: Sabah, Sarawak, and the 11 states of Peninsular Malaysia.
