The findings of this current research study added to the body of knowledge on organizational behavior. These findings provide organizational managements with a more informed basis for making decisions related to changes to the standard work week. 3
Several terms integral to this current study required definition. These terms, together with their definitions, were as follows:
1. Four day work week: a work week consisting of 40 hours, which are completed in four ten hour days, which are worked consecutively.
2. Job satisfaction: the degree to which an individualstates that he or she is satisfied with both the specific tasks associated with the job, and the organizational environment of which the job is a part.
3. Organizational commitment: the degree to which an individual states that he or she both supports the objectives of the organization, and is willing to remain employed by the organization.
4. Productivity: the level of output per hour of labor input, where output is measured in units of production.
5. Standard work week: a work week consisting of 40 hours, which are completed in five eight hour days, which are worked consecutively.
The methodology employed in the conduct of this current study relied on the analysis of previously conducted studies, as opposed to the performance of original experimental research. While this methodological approach permitted the 4researcher to expand the scope of the current investigation with a minimum of resource commitment, to some extent, the findings of this current study may not be fully generalizable to all organizations.
