ties. Based on the findings of the research performed for this study, the conclusions drawn were as follows:
1. Work place safety management will be optimized through a continued participation by government in the process. The role of government, however, should be participatory, contributive, and advisory in the development of work place safety standards, augmented with a legislated authority and responsibility to penalize employers who do not develop and maintain safe working conditions.
2. The development of ergonomic innovations to minimize work place injuries associated with materials handling activities will be most effective and efficient when such innovations are developed by industry-based research associations in which representatives of labor, occupational health, labor law, and OSHA participate in the decision-making processes. Consensus support among stakeholder groups will create a higher probability of success. Further research was recommended to determine the best procedure to bring about the conditions outline in the conclusions drawn from the research performed through the conduct of this study.
