Companies are finding it increasingly important to training employees not only on their specific job tasks, but also in other areas of operations and management. This is so that employees might transfer to other departments or move up the organizational ladder in the future. Small and large companies alike need to continue to make a commitment to educating their work forces if they want to remain profitable in the long-term, and continuing education is a key way in which that education can take place.

The California State University system is charged with providing educational opportunities to the community at a level more advanced than community colleges, but less advanced than the University of California system. In today's highly competitive economy, campuses are seeking ways to market their services and to attract new students. In addition, colleges and universities are finding new ways of meeting the needs of the community, with the result that a number of institutions have moved to offer not only two and four-year traditional degrees and post-graduate degrees, but also certificate programs that offer college-level work without awarding a baccalaureate degree. This research examines these certificate programs at a particular institution (California State University at Los Angeles--CSULA) and the marketing program which could be implemented to promote these programs.
