well positioned to take advantage of the Chinese market since it can enter into a joint venture over the long-term which will help ensure its continued presence in China. Chinese regulations require that products and companies eventually assume a Chinese character (using either components manufactured in China or a Chinese business partner); Hyundai has the management expertise and the resources necessary to enter into a joint venture in a region where it already understands many of the business problems. Long-term, Hyundai may be able to produce vehicles in China for sale in China, as well.
All of these circumstances combine to make the Chinese market a particularly attractive one for automobile manufacturers; Hyundai and other Korean automakers are in a position to assume a commanding market share quickly and build on that market share in the long-term to ensure their success within China.
