ad to relearn even the most elementary activities. Jack says that "this was when he realized that the world was a hard and cruel place taking his career in art from him." Continuing with his ever present practical nature, though, Jack returned to school the next fall, completing his degree in a new field in just four semesters.
Anxious to leave his home town, Jack moved to another university and finished his M.A. degree, all the while feeling an impending sense of doom and dissatisfaction with life. Although he had many friends, he was unable to establish a long term romantic relationship, partly he says, "because I never would allow myself to trust or be trusted."
The treatment plan outlined for Jack needs to include several sessions exploring Jack's inner dissatisfaction with himself, possibly the core of his problem with other relationships and intimacy. It also needs to examine Jack's tendency to harshly judge himself and others, and perhaps through personcentered therapy (Corsini, 1989, p. 189), Jack will be able to dig within himself and focus his obvious intellectual strength into the more covered parts of his emotional and subconscious life.
