The revolution was not just against the outcome of the war. It was also a manifestation of the extreme dissatisfaction of the Argentine public with the terror tactics employed domestically by the military governments, and with the almost complete mismanagement of the country's economy by those governments.

Stable civilian government has been maintained in Argen tine since 1983, in spite of severe economic difficulties, and the problems faced by President Alfonsin in dealing with dissatisfied factions within the military. New presidential elections were held in Argentina in 1988. The transfer of power was peaceful. 3

Although Argentina has a diversified agricultural sector, it is a major international producer of only two products grains and beef. The country is a major exporter of unprocessed grains, particularly wheat. Agricultural output also provides the basis for two of the country's major industries meat processing and flour milling. Processed meat products are also a major export good for Argentina. Other major manufacturing, processing, and extractive industries include chemicals, textiles, machinery, automobiles, fishing, petroleum, lead, zinc, and iron.
