2) Do it as often as you can: this sends a positive message to the employees. It shows your interest in them and their work, and says you don't consider yourself "too good" to spend time with them. It also allows you to stay in touch with what is going on in your department.

3) Go by yourself: it is more meaningful if you visit with employees on your own and talk to them one-on-one. It encourages honest dialogue and shows your personal commitment to your ideas.

4) Don't circumvent subordinate managers: if employees complain to you about their immediate supervisor who is subordinate to you; suggest that they discuss it directly with that person first, and if you have questions for the supervisor, talk to them privately.

4) Ask questions: MBWA is a great opportunity for you to observe your employees interacting with your clients. Ask them questions about the projects they are working on, or what their duties are, but be sure to sound inquisitive rather than intrusive.

6) Watch and listen: take in everything, including the words and tone of the employees as they speak to you and each other. This allows you to learn about their motivation and their satisfaction with the job.

7) Share your dreams with them: MBWA tell the employees about your vision for the company, for its future, and where your department fits into the overall plan of the organization. Tell them the goals and objectives you want them to help you reach, working together as a team, and ask for their own personal vision.

8) Try out their work: sit down at their computer, their phone, look through their project file, and try and experience their job enough to show your interest in it, and to understand it. Try to get an understanding of just what they experience in a typical day.
