uld not solve or attempt to solve the world's problems. Our military presence is simply not required abroad unless our national security is directly threatened. For fifty years, our nation was mired in the Cold War conflict. And those days have passed, leaving us with a unique opportunity to reassess our interests overseas. I believe that what we are looking at here is an opportunity to reduce our military budget and focus our attentions on the home front. For if we are to be competitive in this emerging global market, we must not arm ourselves with weapons of war, but weapons of economy.
