Politics can be thought of as the bridge between individual material and economic interests on one hand, and the agenda of the state on the other hand. It seems clear that without the influence of politics the agenda of the state would dominate and the needs of the individual would be of secondary importance. Political activity, and in particular the activities of politicians that seek to correct injustice and curb the power of the state to push forward its agenda is the way the system finds equilibrium.
