ining those competencies their schoolsàwant them to master. Assessment in educational settings is a multifaceted process that involves far more than just administering a test. When we assess students, we consider the way they perform a variety of tasks in a variety of settings or contexts, the meaning of their performance in terms of the total functioning of each individual, and the likely explanations for those performances (Salvia & Ysseldyke, 2001, p. 6).
There are 13 kinds of decisions identified as assessment criteria currently used to assess students. They are:
Provision of Special help or enrichment û does the child require the teacher or parent provide special aids in learning.
Referral to an Intervention Assistance Team û Once it has been determined the child requires special learning aids they are referred to an Intervention Assistance Team.
Provision of Intervention Assistance û The team provides intervention assistance based on the teacherÆs in classroom learning evaluation.
Screening û Child is screened for specific educational needs and diagnoses of specific learning disabilities and disorders.
Referral û Child is referred to the appropriate agencies for the required social services, medical, psychiatric and educational assistance.
Exceptionality û such psychological, medical, developmental and social evaluations as may be appropriate in determining the nature and scope of the student's exceptionality in learning.
Documentation of Special Learning Needs û Teacher keeps required documentation record on childÆs disabilities and required learning aids and enters this information into the official school record.
Eligibility û is determined for state program placement.
