1) 1903 û (Employment) WomenÆs Trade Union League of New York is formed.

The formation of this group by Mary Dreier, Rheta Childe Dorr, and Leonora OÆReilly represented a grass roots movement by middle- and working-class women devoted to unionization and suffrage. The group would later become the International LadiesÆ Garment WorkersÆ Union (ILGWU).

Local: Middle- and working-class women organized local meetings, waged education and awareness campaigns, and gathered support for unionization and suffrage in their communities.

Government: New York City officials were opposed to the formation of such groups, primarily due to the influence of business owners.

Conflict: Employment conflicts arise when the goals of the wealthy owners of the means of production conflict with labor groups. Such conflicts often result in increased government regulation and improved conditions for workers.

2) 1911 (Gender/Politics) û The National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage (NAOWS) is formed.

This organization was formed by Mrs. Arthur Dodge, one of a number of its members representing the interests of wealthy, influential women and members of the Catholic clergy. Those opposed to woman suffrage included distillers and brewers, corporate businessmen, and others who supported their cause politically and economically.

Local: Corporate capitalists flooded the coffers of such organizations on a local basis in order to defeat the cause of suffrage on a national level.

Local: Local organizations like the NAACP and others continued to fight for Civil Rights on the local level through education and awareness that promoted increased voter registration of African Americans.
