Calhoun also makes a distinction between intellectual believing and evidential believing. Evidentially believing is holding a belief because of previous experience through another. Calhoun uses his belief that Main Street is always heavily trafficked, so when he explains this to a friend, this friend, who has never seen Main Street, adopts this belief.
