The Israeli-Palestinian conflict actually is a sub-problem of a wider Arab-Israeli conflict or an Israeli-Islamic dispute if one includes Iran and Turkey. The most intractable dispute in this Middle East mix, however, is the one involving the Israelis and the Palestinians who have been attempting to occupy the same real estate for centuries (Binder 73).

As noted above, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been the focus of intensive negotiations for more than three decades. The negotiations have frequently been bilateral in character, but more typically occur in a multilateral context involving the United Nations, major powers, and Middle East regional powers. The objectives of all of the negotiations have been to find a solution acceptable to both the Israelis and the Palestinians.
