s Cases (1474-1566) was a Spanish landowner in Hispaniola, who became a priest, then became disgusted with the way he saw the Spaniards deal with the native peoples in Cuba. He petitioned King Ferdinand to intervene and was appointed Protector of the Indians, but this achieved little. In the way of reform. He freed his own slaves, and returned to Spain to live in the convent of Our Lady of Athocha in Madrid, and spent the rest of this life writing, and in prayer and reflection.

The A-Group Nubians whom archaeologists consider the first true Nubian cultural group, arose around 3500 50 3000 BC and are the fist known Nubian culture to develop an extensive agricultural network (Early, 2004). This was also the beginning of trade between the Egyptians and the Nubians. Their funerary practices involved burying a large amount of personal items with the dead. Pottery was greatly valued by this group, and they produced superior ceramic works. They lived in small settlements, some of which contained multiple occupation layers. The A-=Group Nubians reached their climax during the Egyptian First Dynasty and ended at the beginning of the third millennium BC. Practically no evidence of a succeeding culture has been found. Their demise is attributed to a deterioration in climate and the effects of Egyptian exploitation in trade. No new Nubian culture began until the Sixth Dynasty of Egypt between 2345 and 2181 BC.

The next Nubian culture has been named the C-Group (The C-Group, 2004). There was once thought to be a B-Group but this has since been disproved. The origin of the C-Group has not been established. They are said to have been descendants of the A-Group but the evidence for this is lacking. They led a more ordered life, in many of the same parts where the A-Group had lived.
