BEA believes GartnerÆs methodology is deficient in several important respects. In the balance of this analysis we choose to rely on IDC market numbers, which we believe to be more rigorously derived. Unlike Gartner, the IDC estimates (published last summer, due to be revised in a few months) combine license, support and maintenance revenues. Therefore, we have attempted to back out the license components for CY03. As each of these markets mature, the ratio of maintenance and support to license revenue increases. Note also that IDC allocates APS revenues to the individual product categories whereas Gartner identifies a separate category.
