Another question is relative to the rural equestrian lifestyle. The problem is the rapid population growth and the increasing population density. Based on material available, the population, which has been growing rapidly, is expected to reach 100,000 people in the near future. That will represent a population density of about 3,000 per square mile, lower than Manhattan, but high for a community that is striving to preserve its rural and equestrian heritage. There is also the question raised of what the community is doing to promote further growth. With a land area of 35.6 square miles (Town of Davie)[1], how much additional population can be supported and still claim any semblance of a rural lifestyle? What is the strategy behind growth promotion, and what sort of growth; residential, business, manufacturing?
If the growth target is residential construction, there were already 31,284 housing units in the year 2000, or a density of 879 per square mile, more than 1 per acre. There has been substantial growth since the year 2000, so this figure probably should be revised upward.
