Four Benefits of Employee Involvement in Decision Making

1. Better problem identification. More individuals are likely to be better able to frame the problem appropriately.

2. More/better solutions generated. More individuals are likely to come up with more creative and more numbers of alternatives.

3. Better likelihood of making the "right" choice. More individuals may be able to identify the best choice, or combine alternatives into a creative "best" choice.

4. Higher decision commitment. Because more individuals are involved in identifying and creating the solution, they are more likely to have a higher level of commitment and share that commitment with others than if the decision were "imposed" on them.

The Four Steps in the Creative Process

1. Preparation. This is the time when the individual focuses on the problem and defines the situation.

2. Incubation. The problem is "internalized" and processed in the subconscious.

3. Insight. A solution or insight moves suddenly from the subconscious to the conscious mind.

4. Verification. The solution is consciously verified, augmented and implemented.
