What is an Aneurysm

r in approximately 2% to 5% of the general population, and aortic rupture is the key danger among these patients. Research shows that abdominal aortic aneurysms are the most common type of aneurysm, and the United Kingdom Small Aneurysm Trial found that the 30-day survival rate for patients suffering from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm is only 11%. An intervention used to prevent aortic rupture is surgical repair in which a Dacron or polytetrafluorethylene graft is inserted into the weakened vessel, but this procedure is invasive and carries a significant risk of mortality.

Cerebral aneurysms occur in the brain's blood vessels, where the bulging vessel can apply pressure to what surrounds it, whether it be a nerve or brain tissue. If it leaks or ruptures, pouring blood into the surrounding tissue, it becomes complicated by hemorrhage. The usual site for this type of aneurysm is somewhere between the base of the skull and the underside of the brain, where there is a loop of arteries. Ruptured aneurysms occur in the general population at a rate of approximately 10 per 100,000 people each year, approximately 27,000 of which live in the United States. Risk factors associated with this type of aneurysm include smoking, hypertension, and alcohol or drug abuse-particularly cocaine abuse. With this aneurysm, its condition and size have an impact on the risk that it will rupture.

Popliteal aneurysms occurring in the artery behind the knee were documented in a retrospective cohort study of 106 consecutive patients, of which 103 were male and 3 were female, and the mean age in the range from 50 to 90 years old was 70.5 years. The patients were followed for a mean of 6.7 years, and of the 94 asymptomatic limbs presented, 27 were initially repaired, one required amputation, and the remaining 67 asymptomatic limbs were managed nonoperatively, at least initially. In 12 participants, acute or chronic symptoms develop...
