ed. The study concluded that any patients with popliteal aneurysm having any of three risk factors-size greater than 2 cm, thrombus, or poor runoff-should have elective repair, even if they are asymptomatic at the time.

Splenic aneurysms are in greatest danger of rupture when the patient happens to be pregnant, particularly if she is also hypertensive. Moreover, although the spontaneous rupture of this type of aneurysm is rare, it has a 70% maternal mortality rate and a 90% fetal mortality rate. Only about 100 cases of splenic artery rupture during pregnancy have been reported, and only 12 of those cases ended with both mother and baby surviving. The risk of rupture is 3% to 5% without pregnancy, but with pregnancy it escalates to more than 20%. In addition, two thirds of the ruptures happen in the third trimester, when the baby's gestational changes result in increased vascular volume.
