The conceptual purpose of the study was to use comparative findings to determine whether or not there is support for the notion that the existing literature (which shows mixed findings for alcohol dependence, depression, and childhood maltreatment studies) are mixed due to differences in the levels of childhood maltreatment experienced by the various samples.
