JACK LONDON

. "Jack London's books capture the spirit of the gold rush and the mood of the times. Young readers especially enjoy Call of the Wild, White Fang, and Stories of the North" (Streissguth 47).

Jack London stories are still made into movies and TV shows. A few years ago, Rick Schroeder starred in Call of the Wild on TV. Online, movies include The Sea Wolf, The Adventures of Martin Eden and White Fang. They also made Call of the Wild as a movie many years ago. One website features two films where Jack London was a character in the plot:: "Jack London (1943). Directed by Alfred Santell. Michael O'Shea played Jack London in this film about the adventurous life of this American novelist (1876-1916) who sometimes wrote science fictiona.and Klondike Fever (1980). Directed by Peter Carter. Jeff East stars as Jack London in this semi-autobiographical movie based on London's novel"(Anon 3). London wrote fifty books. They made forty-three movies from his books and stories so far, and a lot of TV, too. Is London still important today? Anybody who likes a good adventure story in a place you might never see or visit would still love to read books written over 100 years ago. Was he a communist who shouldn't have his name on a library? I don't know the facts.
