First, modern scientists are becoming more politically involved than their predecessors and are dealing with policy issues on an unprecedented level: "Science is no longer practiced solely behind laboratory doors." Second, the willingness to get involved with government policy has placed the scientific community under more intense scrutiny by the general public.
