Regarding angelic motivation to engage in encounters with Mankind, Douglas (1982) states that the primary reasons angels interact with man is that they are merely obeying the will of God. However, Billy Graham (1996) points out that angels are emotional creatures who experience joy during these interactions with people because such interactions manifest the glory of God, and that is their primary motivation in their work with Mankind.
As can be seen from the foregoing, characterizations of the nature of angels and their functions can differ in association with differences in religious views and doctrines; however, Burnham (1990) points out that regardless of these differences, most of the world's major religious views believe that one of the functions of angelic beings is to provide guidance and instruction.
