Winston works for the propaganda department, the Records Department of the Ministry. He must write and rewrite history over and over to shape it to be in line with the values of Big Brother. Eventually, any truthful history is lost through this manipulation of media. Technology is used to further the message and keep close surveillance on anyone for any activity that might be in violation of the rigid code of conduct permitted citizens.
