b) Why? Show respect for the dead and to comfort those left behind.

The religion ideology known as Islam came into being during the seventh century Arab world. The word "Islam" literally translates as "submission" or one's complete surrender to the will of God (Islam 1). An individual who adheres to or practices Islamic faith is known as a "Muslim," translated to mean "one who submits" to God (Islam 1). Verses in the main Islamic holy text, the Qur'an, also link Islam with the concept of "din" or religion (Islam 1).

The origins of Islamic religion stem from the teachings of a seventh century Arab religious and political leader, the Islamic prophet Muhammad (Islam 1). Followers of the prophet and Islam do not view Muhammad as having created a new religion. Instead, they believe he restored the true faith of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and other prophets.
