Ethical Leadership, Job Satisfaction and Work Performance: A Proposal

open-ended questions will be used for the study. The closed-ended question will be used since they are easier to code and statistically analyze. However, the disadvantage of the closed-ended question is that it presents only a small set of alternatives from which to answer, and findings from answers may be limited. With this type of question, alternatives presented may be ones that the respondent might never have presented on their own, and questions may be misinterpreted. Open-ended questions during face-to-face interviews will therefore also be used to allow for subjects to answer questions in a more complete manner, with a potential to reveal additional information that may not have been anticipated by the experimenter.

The population will include Central Texas College staff and faculty and Deans and Directors from the Killeen, Texas campus. This population includes staff and faculty (926 teaching faculty, 1022 other staff) and deans (nine), associate deans (seven), division directors (eight), and directors (41). Subjects will include all those faculty, staff, deans, associate deans, division directors, and directors that volunteer to participate in the study. Subjects will be chosen according to their job title. Subjects will live within driving distance of the Texas campus.

Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI)

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) includes two surveys, one for the faculty and staff and one for the Deans and Directors. The survey for the faculty and staff includes 30 questions that measure the individual's perception of others' ethical leadership. The survey for the Deans and Directors includes 30 questions that measure the observer's personal perception of his or her own ethical leadership. Each scale has six questions that assess each of the five scale factors. The five factors measured by the scale include challenging, inspiring, enabling, modeling, and encouraging.
