Two research questions were investigated in this study. These questions were stated as follows:
1. Would patient records maintained in microfilm format be as operationally useful and as legally acceptable for Emergency Medical Clinics, Incorporated as were the existing paper based and x ray patient records maintained by the organization?
2. Would the creation and maintenance of patient records in microfilm format provide financial and space use
efficiencies for Emergency Medical Clinics, Incorporated compared to the organization's existing record formats?Importance of the Study
Two factors dictate the importance of this study. First, the conversion of patient records to microfilm format may improve the level of patient services delivered by Emergency Medical Clinics, Incorporate. Second, the conversion of patient records to microfilm format may lead to improved financial performance by the organization.
This study considered only patient records created and maintained by Emergency Medical Clinics, Incorporate. Conversion of other records created and maintained by the organization may also benefit from a conversion to microfilm format; however, these other records were not within the scope of this study.
The research conducted for this study was delimited to the activities of Emergency Medical Clinics, Incorporated. No claim is made that the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of this study may be generalizable to any other organization.
